Feast of the Assumption
On Sunday, we celebrate the feast of the Assumption of Mary, the mother of God. We celebrate Mary’s passing from this world into the glory of God. We remember her deep faith and her constant trust in God. We pray that we will be inspired by Mary’s life and see her as a model of commitment and devotion.
Scripture
Luke 1:39-56
An angel of the Lord came to Mary and told her that God was pleased with her. She would conceive a son, who would be the Son of God. She should name him Jesus.
Mary said, “I am the Lord’s servant. Let God’s will be done to me.”
Soon afterwards, Mary went to visit her cousin Elizabeth who was pregnant. As soon as Elizabeth saw Mary, the baby inside her womb jumped with joy. Elizabeth said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!”
Mary sang a song of praise to God, glorifying the name of the Lord and thanking God for all of the great things that the Lord had done for her.
She stayed with Elizabeth for three months before returning home.
Prayer
God of love, inspired by Mary’s example, may we live as your faithful and trusting disciples. We pray for the strength and courage we need to be hope-filled and generous people, ready to reach out to others just as Mary did. We ask this prayer through Jesus Christ, your Son.
Enjoy this beautiful Hymn - Hail Mary, Gentle Woman and reflect on Mary’s life.
Dear Parents and Carers
100 Days of Kindergarten
On Wednesday 11 August our Kindergarten children and staff celebrated ‘100 Days of Kindergarten’. It was so exciting to see them all dressed as if they were 100 years old. They wrote some amazing things about how they would spend their time if they were this old.
Farewell to Trish Coelho
We are excited for Trish Coelho (CSO Schools Service Consultant - Hastings Cluster) who begins a new role as Assistant Director in the Maitland Newcastle Diocese on Monday next week. Many of you will remember Trish as a long standing Teacher, Coordinator and Assistant Principal at St Agnes' until the end of 2012, before she moved to her first appointment as Principal of St Joseph’s Primary School, Wauchope. Trish has made a wonderful contribution to Catholic Education in the Lismore Diocese over the past 31 years. We wish her all the best as she moves to this exciting new adventure.
ICAS Assessments
ICAS Assessments have begun this week for those students who have nominated and registered. Please be aware that the writing assessment has been postponed until October. This is due to the marking centre being located in Sydney. All of our other assessments will continue over the planned days next week.
We remind all families of the school zone requirements in place around Boronia St. For the safety of all, it is essential that between 8:00am-9:30am and 2:30pm-4:00pm all motorists obey the 40km speed signs. We remind all families that if you drop off at the front gates, you MUST walk your child across the road. We have observed many children being sent to cross the road themselves. Please assist us by modelling safe practices for your child.
Please also be aware that the area in front of the school gates is a no stopping zone. If you drop children off in that area, you may be fined by the police. If you wish to use the kiss and drop service, you need to use the drive through drop off.
We have a very large number of families using the carpark pick up service at the moment. Please assist staff by going round the block when directed by the lollipop controller as we are unable to let the traffic queue. We have had random visits from the police and would not like to see any of our families fined.
Attendance
Attending school regularly is legally required for all children of school age. If your child is habitually absent they miss important learning as well as opportunities to connect with their peers. Even being 5-10 minutes late regularly adds up to a lot of missed days. Please see the table below for more information. If for any reason you are having difficulty getting your child to school, please contact their class teacher or Kate, Donna or Ginaya for assistance. We wish to work in partnership with you to support regular attendance. Please be aware that if your child is habitually absent we are required to take action to ensure that this does not continue. We thank you for your support in this matter.
Social Media Safety - TikTok
We have had an increase lately of students talking about and having difficulties with social media, particularly TikTok. The following two sites offer some information for parents regarding TikTok and safety for families.
Centred In Christ and With Love For One Another, St Agnes’ Learners are:
This week our PBS focus is on being responsible when the bell goes. Our students have been learning about:
- How to respond to the bell?
- What should I do when the teacher gives instructions?
- Why do I need to follow instructions in a timely manner at home and at school?
Family Resources: Responsible and Timely
Have a family chat about how we can be responsible at home too by doing what we are told to do when we are told.
- What happens when we make mum and dad late for work?
- What happens when I don’t come and eat my dinner when I am told?
- What happens when I don’t get out of bed when I am told?
- What happens when I keep playing and I don’t get dressed for school?
