AGGIES ARTICLES - Term 2 Week 5 - Friday 21 May 2021
Pentecost Sunday
23 May is Pentecost Sunday. This celebrates Jesus’ sending of the Holy Spirit to help his disciples. Pentecost is often called the birthday of the Church because it is when the disciples received the Holy Spirit and were sent to spread the news of Jesus’ life, death, Resurrection, and Ascension.

Dear Parents and Carers
We have much to celebrate as a school community this week. Last Sunday, we were blessed with great weather for our Golf Day, the students are all back playing on the oval and our Year 4 students finally had their reflection day at the Youth Hub.
Golf Day
Last Sunday was a fantastic celebration of community spirit. We were so excited to have been able to return to this fun event. There was a wonderful spirit of generosity and working together to ensure the success of the day. Thank you to the Golf Day committee members who got to enjoy each other's company weekly to coordinate the event. We appreciate the time given by parents, staff and those family members of the committee who were either coerced or volunteered to help on the day.
Thank you again to each and every one of our sponsors who either paid money or donated goods. You have been acknowledged on our facebook page, on our digital sign at the front of the school and signage on the day. A special thanks goes to our two gold member sponsors who provided a $500 sponsorship: Naomi Hunter from Hem Real Estate and David Plews from Elders Real Estate.
Penance Reflection Day
On Thursday, Year 4 students finally had their Penance Reflection Day at the Youth Hub. This was postponed last term due to flooding, along with the sacrament itself. The students engaged well with the learning and fun activities on the day. It was made even more special by those lovely family members who were able to join us for the Prayer Service and Youth Hub games at the end of the day.

Guudi Yiigu,
Yesterday marked the end of the 20th Anniversary of Reconciliation Week in Australia. All the students of St Agnes’ Primary have spent the week reflecting and learning about the significance and history of this week to our First Nations Peoples.
Our Reconciliation Week began with a beautiful Sorry Day Prayer hosted by our wonderful CAPA Team, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island flags were flown and classes were busy creating beautiful window displays to compliment their learning of this important week.
As a whole school activity, the students created a garden of beautifully decorated feet to signify “Steps towards Reconciliation”.

This learning has been a wonderful opportunity for our students to gain a greater understanding of our history as we next will celebrate our unique Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island cultures during NAIDOC Week, held early in Term 3.
Marumbu,
Sharon Hugo

Golf
All students will be participating in specialised golf clinics in the coming weeks. We are hoping to expose the students to this sport, and who knows, we may uncover our very own Dustin Johnson or Jin Young Ko
If you are interested in helping out with any of our sporting pursuits, please contact craig.brazel@lism.catholic.edu.au. Parental involvement is a wonderful way to build school and family connections, and we encourage partnerships of this nature. We have a wonderful parent community that has a wealth of expertise that we could use to increase our students participation in physical activities. However, expertise is not a prerequisite for getting involved; an extra set of hands is always useful!
Does your child want to play Rugby Union? All Port Macquarie Junior Rugby Union clubs (Hastings Valley Vikings, Port Pirates, Port Macquarie Hogs) are looking for players in the U10s (children turning 9 and 10 this year) and the U12s (Children turning 11 and 12 this year). This is open to both boys and girls. Games are held at the same time at Stuart Park on a Friday night. Contact craig.brazel@lism.catholic.edu.au if you have any questions.
Do you have a junior sporting team that requires players? Are you part of a sporting club that is looking to increase numbers and promote your organisation? Do you have a child that wants to join a team or play a sport, but don’t know where to start? Do you have an adult team that requires players and want to put the word out to our parent community? If the answer is ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then please send an email to craig.brazel@lism.catholic.edu.au explaining what you require.

Dear Families,
St Agnes’ Golf Day is over for another year, we could not have raised funds for our school St Agnes’ Primary School without the help of all our volunteers and staff! THANK YOU. A special mention to the Golf Day Committee and all that helped on the day and in the lead up to this great event. We are so lucky to be part of such a wonderful community. We raised over $4,000.
