From the Leaders
This week the Gospel from John, on the nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time uncovers the true motivation of the crowd following Jesus: selfishness. This passage is part of a long dialogue where Christ clarifies the meaning of His miracles.
How can he now say, ‘I came down out of heaven’ and expect anyone to believe him?
The problem with Jesus was, he couldn’t please ALL of the people ANY of the time.
Jesus has just explained that He, Himself, is the ''Bread of Life'' which people are meant to seek.
NAIDOC Celebrations
Thank you to Aunty Sharon and Aunty April, along with all of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who presented prayer this week and shared elements of their impressive culture with us all. Through story and art, all grades appreciated this great learning whilst dressed in the colours from each of the two flags. We were so grateful to the family members who joined us for prayer and stayed for some of ‘Canteen Kerri’s’ treats and a cuppa.
Whole School Mass - Feast of The Assumption
Next Thursday is the Feast of the Assumption. This feast commemorates the belief that when Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, died, her body was "assumed" into heaven to be reunited with her soul, instead of going through the natural process of physical decay upon death. We will be celebrating this holy day with a whole school Mass with Father Alejo at 10:15am.
This week the SRC met with Class Representatives who provided ‘student voice’ on the topic of Incursions and Excursions. Class Representatives brought forward ideas discussed in class for potential learning opportunities in our local community. These ideas along with survey results from families will be shared at the Parent Community Forum meeting in September. We look forward to collating these ideas and those from staff to coordinate future planning to cater for these learning experiences.
Year 4 Poems
In Year 4, students have been working on creating poems by drawing inspiration from texts they have read. They have planned their poems by brainstorming ideas and themes, often influenced by stories and poems they've encountered. As they write, students have been encouraged to use figurative language, such as metaphors, personification, repetition and similes, to make their poems more engaging and vivid. Additionally, they incorporate symbols and imagery to convey deeper meanings and enhance the reader's experience.
Whole School Mass - Friday 23 August
Social Justice will be the theme for our Whole School Mass on Friday 23 August from 12:30pm to 1:30pm.
Creative Arts Spectacular - Cover Competition
We received an amazing selection of art work for our Creative Arts Spectatcular Design Competition. It was incredibly hard to choose the winner...
Winner of the program front cover - Kitt Q
Winner of the ticket design - Sienna T (portion of Sienna's artwork used)
Book Week
This year, we will return to our usual cycle of Easter Hat Parade and Book Week Parade being coordinated on alternative years. We will be celebrating Book Week in the Library this year, and look forward to a dress-up opportunity in 2025.
Fruit Break
We appreciate families supplying fruit each day. This is a short break during learning time. Could you please ensure the fruit you provide for fruit break is a snack size and easy for your child to eat quickly.
Thank you for your support with this.
Tickets for the Nintendo Switch, Port Macquarie Monopoly game and the Mickey Mouse jigsaw puzzle are available for 50 cents each outside of the front office at Lunch One each day.
Many tickets have already been sold in this wonderful prize donated by the Bushe family, who have asked for the proceeds to go to Sr Marjorie’s Soup Kitchen at ‘Our Place.’
Youth and Family Mass
On Sunday 18 August at 5:00pm everyone is invited to join us at St Agnes’ Church as our school hosts the Youth and Family Mass.
Staff, students and families will be involved in each of the ministries of welcoming, reading, music, offertory and Children’s Liturgy throughout the mass. We hope you can join us.
Recycle Champions
Thank you to all students who are using the blue bins to place their empty canteen drink containers in.
Uniform - Second Hand
As we are now a few years into the introduction of the new school uniform, we would appreciate it if any families have uniforms that are too small, can possibly send them into the school. We have times when children may require emergency uniforms after a toileting accident or getting wet, but we currently do not have any available supplies of sizes 4-12. We would greatly appreciate any support from families.
Thank God for both Theo Ding and Kobi Westley who held doors open for Aunty Renee, the late bus people and a parent without prompting this week. This is a great display of respect and good manners.
We were also impressed with Amber Fleming offering her jacket to Evie Packer because she was cold at Passive Play.
We thank God everyday for those students who greet staff and visitors with respect by not only greeting them but also either wishing them a great day or asking how their day was.

On Wednesday 25 September, all Year 6 students will travel to Laurieton for the Hastings Zone Gala Day. This event provides an opportunity for Year 6 students from Hastings Catholic Schools to come together in preparation for high school next year. Students can choose to participate in non-competitive netball and soccer leagues. Additionally, the day serves as the selection event for the Lismore Diocese Paul Wilson Cup (soccer) and the Diocesan Netball Challenge. The winning teams will advance to the Diocesan finals in Grafton.
Noah Unsal - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Last Sunday, Year 4 student Noah Unsal took on his very first National Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition in Maitland. After just 8 months of training, Noah stepped onto the mat in a full-contact wrestling and grappling event, competing in the 50kg weight class. His hard work paid off as he clinched the silver medal. Well done, Noah.
New School Representative Jerseys - Expression of Interest
St Agnes' is excited to announce a new initiative to purchase updated sports jerseys for our representative teams. Our families, P&F, and staff have all expressed a strong desire for new playing gear that not only highlights the dedication and skills of our athletes but also proudly represents St Agnes' Primary School at sporting events.
We are reaching out to businesses within our school community to seek support for this initiative. By partnering with us, your business can help us achieve our goal of providing top-quality sportswear for our students. This partnership would include funding the purchase of the jerseys, featuring your business logo on the jerseys, and collaborating on their design.
The sports kits in need of updating include jerseys for Rugby Union/Rugby League, Soccer shirts for both boys and girls and singlets for Netball, Basketball, Touch Football, and Cross Country/Athletics.
If your business is interested in sponsoring a set of jerseys or if you would like more information, please contact Renee Shaw at the school office on 02 6583 7433. Your support will make a significant difference in enhancing our athletes' experience and showcasing our school spirit.
